Ehvert Mission Critical, a business unit within Salas O’Brien, is seeking an experienced Fire Sprinkler Design Engineer for a long-term independent contractor engagement.

This is an ongoing contractual engagement with a US-based company and is not limited to a single project. The role involves continuous collaboration across multiple mission-critical projects, based on business needs.

You will provide services as an independent, self-employed professional under a formal independent contractor agreement.

Role Summary

We are seeking a skilled Fire Sprinkler Design Engineerto support the design and coordination of fire sprinkler and suppression systems for cutting-edge data center projects across the U.S.

In this role, you will be responsible for designing, modeling, and coordinating fire sprinkler systems, including wet, dry, pre-action, and deluge systems. You will prepare hydraulic calculations, sprinkler layouts, engineering documentation, and detailed designs while ensuring compliance with applicable fire protection codes and standards.

You will work closely with multidisciplinary engineering teams in a collaborative, fast-paced environment and contribute throughout the project lifecycle, from schematic design through detailed design and execution.

Strong technical expertise in sprinkler system design, attention to detail, and excellent communication skills are essential.

Key Responsibilities

Using BIM tools to model and coordinate fire sprinkler systems with other disciplines; hands-on Autodesk Revit experience is a must

Designing fire sprinkler and suppression systems, including wet, dry, pre-action, and deluge systems

Developing sprinkler layouts and detailed fire protection designs for mission-critical facilities

Preparing hydraulic calculations and other engineering calculations required for sprinkler system design

Selecting and laying out sprinkler heads, piping, valves, and associated fire protection equipment

Developing a thorough understanding and delivery of project requirements as they relate to scope, cost, and schedule

Determining and expediting engineering deliverables for projects

Developing and maintaining project scope of work documentation and revisions as required during design evolution

Ensuring compliance with applicable fire protection codes and standards, including NFPA, IBC, and IFC

Preparing technical documentation required for project execution, including design criteria, calculations, specifications, and equipment data sheets

Reviewing shop drawings and submittals for compliance with design intent

Producing coordinated models and drawings using BIM and CAD tools

Coordinating sprinkler systems with architectural, structural, mechanical, and electrical disciplines

Performing occasional site visits to support construction progress (valid U.S. work visa considered an asset but not required)

Qualifications & Experience

A bachelor’s or master’s degree in engineering (fire protection, mechanical, or related field)

At least 4–5 years of experience in fire sprinkler/fire protection design

Proven expertise in the design of fire sprinkler and suppression systems

Strong understanding of wet, dry, pre-action, and deluge sprinkler systems

Experience performing and reviewing hydraulic calculations

Knowledge of applicable fire protection codes and standards, including NFPA, IBC, and IFC; FM Global knowledge is a plus

Hands-on experience with Autodesk Revit – is a must

Experience designing systems for industrial, commercial, or mission-critical projects

Written and spoken English B1 and higher

Microsoft Office proficiency (Word, Excel, Outlook)

Ability to multi-task and prioritize while meeting project deadlines

Self-starter, ambitious, and able to thrive in a fast-paced environment

Strong communication skills and ability to explain technical concepts clearly

Experience with U.S.-based projects and data centers is considered an advantage
