Fantasy Crosshatch Action Scenes

I’m preparing a fantasy novel and want every major fight sequence to pop off the page with classic, pen-and-ink crosshatching. Your task is to create a set of highly realistic action-scene illustrations that feel as if they were etched by hand, full of motion, grit, and dramatic lighting.

The style I have in mind leans toward traditional engraving: tight line work, dense hatch patterns for tone, and confident strokes that suggest texture without muddying the figures. Because these pieces are going straight into print, they must reproduce cleanly at both trade-paperback trim size and in digital formats.

Scope
• 6–8 full-page illustrations depicting pivotal battles, duels, or magical clashes from my manuscript (storyboards and text excerpts supplied on award).
• Black-and-white ink look; if you sketch digitally, brushes must convincingly emulate dip-pen marks.
• Final files: layered PSD or Clip Studio Paint originals plus 600 dpi flattened TIFFs ready for CMYK conversion.

Acceptance
An illustration is approved when the anatomy is proportionate, the action reads instantly, and your crosshatch values hold up at 50 % zoom without breaking into moiré. Two review rounds per piece are included so we can fine-tune line density and focal contrast.

If you love working in a Franklin Booth or Bernie Wrightson vein and can deliver dynamic, print-ready fantasy art, I’d love to see samples of previous crosshatching or ink studies that show your control of light, texture, and energy.
