I need a complete technical package for a palm-sized desktop crane that lets students see exactly how real cranes work. The model has to be fully manual: every lift, lower, and 360° rotation is driven by hand-turned gears and knobs—no motors, batteries, or electronics at all.
The design should balance clarity and durability. Parts must be easy to manufacture on common hobby equipment (FDM/ resin 3-D printers, small CNC, or laser-cut sheet) and assemble with off-the-shelf fasteners. Keep the mechanism visible where possible so the gear trains, pulleys, and slewing bearing become teaching points. Safety matters too, so avoid pinch points and specify modest load limits suited to classroom demos (think paper clips, small bolts, or LEGO bricks).
Please size the entire crane to fit comfortably on a standard desk, roughly a 200 mm footprint and a similar boom length, but feel free to tweak dimensions if it improves strength or ease of build.
Deliverables
• Parametric CAD files (STEP or native SolidWorks / Fusion 360)
• Exploded assembly drawing with numbered BOM
• 2-D manufacturing drawings for all custom parts
• Simple user/assembly guide that explains how each hand-operated mechanism works
I will review the design by test-printing a prototype, so tolerance annotations and clear fastener specs are important for acceptance.
