I have a new site going live and I want its copyright statement to be crystal-clear. I need a concise yet comprehensive copyright notice that can sit in the footer and also be copied to the legal page without tweaks each time I update the year.
Here’s what I expect:
• A short copyright line that automatically covers all on-site content (text, images, downloadable files, and embedded media).
• A slightly longer version for the legal page that explains ownership, the scope of rights reserved, and how third parties may request permission to quote or reuse material.
• Plain-English wording that still meets standard U.S. copyright requirements and can be adapted internationally if I add translated pages later.
I will provide the site name, first publication year, and any trademarks once we start. Final deliverable is a Word or Google Doc I can paste straight into the CMS.
