SeatGeek believes live events are powerful experiences that unite humans. With our technological savvy and fan-first attitude we’re simplifying and modernizing the ticketing industry.
Reporting to the VP of Engineering, the Director of Engineering will lead the engineering organization responsible for the systems at the core of how teams, venues, and promoters manage tickets and operate their businesses. Hundreds of major live event venues around the globe rely on the SeatGeek platform, including those home to the Dallas Cowboys, Cleveland Cavaliers, Florida Panthers, and Manchester United F.C.
You will set technical direction for this complex, mature platform while helping lead its evolution toward SeatGeek’s next generation of products and architecture. At the same time, you will help change how we build software as we move toward an AI-native engineering organization.
This role requires someone who can move comfortably between technology, product, and the ticketing domain. You will partner closely with Product and Design leadership, Engineering Managers, Senior Engineers, and our clients to turn complicated business problems into clear technical and product direction.
What you'll do
Set technical direction across US Ticketing, working with Engineering Managers and Staff+ engineers on architecture, system ownership, modernization, and platform boundaries
Lead the evolution of a mature, business-critical platform, balancing client commitments and near-term delivery with long-term reliability, scalability, and modernization
Stay close to the technology and contribute directly when useful, whether through code, prototypes, debugging, architecture reviews, technical designs, or documentation
Pioneering AI-native engineering by evolving how teams design, build, test, operate, and understand software, and by turning successful experiments into repeatable improvements
Partner as a peer with Product and Design leadership to shape strategy, not simply execute a roadmap
Develop a deep understanding of our clients and business, distinguish client-specific needs from durable platform opportunities, and participate directly in important client, sales, and implementation conversations when engineering context matters
Lead and develop Engineering Managers and senior technical leaders, creating clear ownership and strong leverage through others
Build a strong engineering organization by developing leaders, growing Staff+ talent, and evolving team structure as the business changes
Create an engineering culture that combines high ownership, healthy technical debate, strong execution, and sustainable performance
What you have
Experience leading multiple engineering teams and Engineering Managers in a complex software organization
Strong technical judgment and enough architectural depth to work credibly with senior engineers on difficult system and platform decisions
A willingness and ability to contribute technically when it is the highest-leverage way to help, including architecture, technical writing, prototyping, debugging, and code
Hands-on experience with AI-assisted software development and a strong point of view on how AI changes engineering practices and the software development lifecycle
Experience evolving mature, business-critical systems while continuing to deliver customer value
A track record of creating technical strategy from ambiguous product and business problems
Experience partnering closely with senior Product and Design leaders and learning complex customer domains quickly
Experience developing Engineering Managers and Staff+ engineers and creating leverage through other leaders
Strong cross-functional leadership, communication, ownership, and comfort making consequential decisions with incomplete information
Experience with ticketing, live events, commerce, payments, reservations, inventory, or similarly complex transactional systems is a plus
Our stack
US Ticketing includes mature systems that have powered some of the world’s largest live events for years alongside newer services and applications. We care much more about your ability to understand complex systems, make sound architectural decisions, lead modernization, and use new tools effectively than experience with any particular language or framework.
This is a deeply technical leadership role. We do not expect the Director to be the primary implementer, but we do expect them to be willing and able to contribute technically when it helps move the team forward. AI is becoming a core part of our engineering process, and this leader will help us rethink how teams build and evolve software in an AI-native development environment.
