I'm looking for an experienced book editor to take my finished manuscript from good to publishable.
The book: Think Like a Fisherman, Win Like an Entrepreneur. It is a business book built on true stories from my life: learning to read a lake beside my father as a boy in Iran, fishermen on the Sea of Oman, competitive water polo, and rebuilding as an entrepreneur in Canada. Each of the 10 chapters turns one fishing lesson into a practical business principle, with a framework, reflection exercises and a one-week action plan. A facilitator guide for workshops is included.
Status: The manuscript is complete (about 43,500 words, 195 pages, standard manuscript format). Sources have been fact-checked. An editorial brief and style sheet are ready for you, covering Canadian spelling, the voice rules and the structure of each chapter.
What I need:
Developmental edit: structure, pacing, chapter flow, and whether the frameworks and the stories carry the book. Tell me honestly what to cut, tighten or strengthen.
Line edit: clarity, rhythm and voice, while keeping it sounding like me rather than a corporate textbook.
Editorial letter: a summary of the big-picture feedback and priorities.
Copyediting and proofreading may follow as a second milestone.
You are a great fit if you:
have edited published nonfiction in business, self-help or memoir (please share titles)
know how to keep an author's voice, including an author writing in English as a second language
are comfortable with Canadian spelling and Chicago style
give direct, honest feedback
To apply, please include:
two or three nonfiction books you have edited
your approach to a developmental edit, in a few lines
your fee and timeline for the developmental and line edit
your answer to this question: "What is the first thing you look for when a business book uses one central metaphor?"
Applications without the answer to that question will not be considered.
Skills: Book Editing, Developmental Editing, Copy Editing, Nonfiction Writing, Proofreading
