Custom Vintage Font Re-Creation

I have high-resolution scanned images of an out-of-print book series that uses a beautiful, bespoke typeface no longer available anywhere. My goal is to convert these books to modern EPUB format, so I need that typeface rebuilt from scratch as a fully installable font (OTF or TTF).

Every glyph that appears in the scans—letters, numbers, punctuation, decorative alternates—must be redrawn and spaced so the digital version looks identical to the original print. Because the books are only in English, multilingual support isn’t required; focus all energy on perfecting the full ASCII-plus English punctuation set.

The workflow is up to you: FontLab, Glyphs, FontForge, or any other professional toolset is fine as long as the final files perform reliably in Adobe InDesign, Pages, Sigil, Calibre, and common e-reader engines. Kerning pairs and basic OpenType features (ligatures, smart quotes) should match the original feel.

Deliverables
• OTF/TTF font file ready for embedding in EPUBs
• Proof sheet showing every completed glyph alongside the corresponding scan for quick visual comparison
• A brief read-me noting software used, any OpenType features added, and confirmation that all glyph metrics have been tested in an EPUB

Once the font passes a quick side-by-side check against the scans, I’ll sign off and move straight into layout.
