# Custom Family Crest & Heraldic Design – House Higgins

This project requires demonstrated professional experience in original vector illustration, heraldic design, and production-ready artwork for laser engraving.

**Applicants MUST provide a portfolio containing relevant examples of previous work.** I am specifically looking for someone who can demonstrate the ability to create detailed illustrations, professionally constructed vector artwork, and simplified designs suitable for small-scale engraving.

Proposals without relevant portfolio examples demonstrating these capabilities may not be considered.

## Project Overview

I am looking to hire an experienced graphic designer or heraldic artist to help develop a custom family crest for my family, **House Higgins**.

I have used AI to create an initial concept that captures much of what I envision. I really like the overall appearance, symbolism, and traditional heraldic style of the design. I would like to use it as the primary reference, but I am absolutely open to creative suggestions and improvements from someone with professional design experience.

My goal is to create a timeless, traditional family crest that represents our family's Christian faith, heritage, values, and legacy for future generations.

## 1. Design & Symbolism

The existing design incorporates four primary symbols within a traditional quartered shield:

1. **Faith:** A Christian cross and an open Bible, representing Christ as the foundation of our household and the authority of God's Word.
2. **Heritage:** An oak tree with deep roots, representing strong biblical foundations, family heritage, and generations to come.
3. **Stewardship:** A hammer, ruler, and wheat, representing hard work, craftsmanship, discipline, provision, and faithful stewardship.
4. **Direction:** A compass and mountains, representing guidance, perseverance, courage, and remaining steadfast through life's challenges.

The design also incorporates a traditional knight's helmet, crown, Christian cross, and ornamental foliage.

**Family Name:** HOUSE HIGGINS

**Latin Motto:** DEO ET POSTERITATI

**Translation:** To God and to Future Generations.

I would like to preserve the meaning behind these elements while allowing room for artistic refinement.

## 2. Required Deliverables

I am looking for several coordinated versions of the crest for different applications.

### A. Full Family Crest – Tapestry / Wall Display

- An elaborate, detailed, traditional heraldic design similar to my reference image.
- Includes the complete shield, helmet, crown, cross, ornamental details, and banners.
- Displays HOUSE HIGGINS and the Latin motto DEO ET POSTERITATI.
- High-resolution artwork suitable for large-format printing on a tapestry or wall hanging.
- A polished, professional design that could also be framed or displayed as a family heirloom.

### B. Signet Ring Design – Laser Engraving

- A simplified version of the family crest specifically designed for engraving onto a men's square-faced silver signet ring.
- Must be clean, recognizable, and legible at a very small size.
- Should retain the four symbolic quadrants of the original shield.
- Include HOUSE HIGGINS and DEO ET POSTERITATI where the dimensions allow.
- No gradients, shadows, excessive textures, or tiny details that would be lost during engraving.
- Artwork must be suitable for professional laser engraving and supplied in production-ready vector format.
- I would also like to see a mockup of how the finished design would appear on an actual signet ring.

### C. Additional Design Variations

I would also like several complementary versions of the crest for different applications:

- A simplified standalone family shield.
- A clean black-and-white version.
- A standalone family emblem or seal.
- A version suitable for stationery, documents, letters, and other family keepsakes.

All versions should maintain a consistent visual identity.

## 3. Technical & Vector Artwork Requirements

This is particularly important to me. I am not simply looking for someone to convert an AI-generated image into an SVG file.

I want the artwork professionally reconstructed as original, editable vector illustrations.

The designer must have experience with vector graphics and understand how to prepare artwork for different physical applications, particularly laser engraving.

Required capabilities:

- Original vector artwork created in Adobe Illustrator or an equivalent professional vector design program.
- Clean, scalable vector paths and shapes.
- Ability to simplify intricate artwork without losing the important symbolism.
- Experience preparing black-and-white artwork for laser engraving.
- Understanding of minimum line thickness, spacing, contrast, and small-scale reproduction.
- Ability to provide both detailed illustrations and simplified production-ready versions.

## 4. Final File Requirements

I would like all final artwork delivered in the following formats:

- SVG – editable vector artwork.
- AI – original editable source files.
- EPS – vector format for production compatibility.
- High-resolution PNG with transparent background.
- High-resolution PDF suitable for professional printing.
- Separate black-and-white vector files specifically prepared for laser engraving.

All artwork should be scalable and suitable for both digital and physical applications.

I would also like the designer to provide the actual ring-face artwork at the intended engraving dimensions, subject to final confirmation with the jeweler.

## 5. Mandatory Portfolio Requirements & Freelancer Qualifications

**PLEASE NOTE: A RELEVANT PORTFOLIO IS REQUIRED TO BE CONSIDERED FOR THIS PROJECT.**

I am looking for someone with demonstrated professional experience in the following areas:

**1. Heraldic Design & Family Crests**

Examples of detailed coats of arms, traditional family crests, shields, or similar ornamental illustrations.

**2. Professional Vector Illustration**

Examples of original artwork created in Adobe Illustrator or comparable vector software. Ideally, show the same design in both its detailed form and simplified vector form.

**3. Laser Engraving & Manufacturing**

Examples of artwork specifically prepared for laser engraving, jewelry, metalwork, or other physical products. Small-scale engraving experience is particularly valuable.

**4. Black-and-White Line Art**

Examples demonstrating the ability to simplify intricate illustrations into clean, high-contrast designs that retain their details and remain recognizable at smaller sizes.

**5. Physical Product Applications**

If possible, provide examples of your artwork reproduced on actual products rather than exclusively digital mockups.

### Requirements When Submitting a Proposal

Please include ALL of the following:

- A link to your professional portfolio or website.
- At least THREE relevant examples of previous work.
- At least ONE example of original vector artwork.
- At least ONE example of black-and-white or simplified vector artwork.
- If available, at least ONE example of work prepared for laser engraving or physical manufacturing.
- The software you use to create original vector artwork.
- A brief description of your experience preparing designs for laser engraving.

**Important:** I specifically want a designer who can create original artwork from scratch, not simply use AI to generate an image or automatically trace an existing image. AI may be used as a creative reference or starting point, but the final deliverables must be professionally illustrated, editable, production-ready artwork.

Please do not submit generic portfolio examples unrelated to the requirements above. I want to see evidence that you have the technical and artistic abilities necessary to complete this particular project.

I am willing to pay for quality and experience. I would much rather hire someone with a proven portfolio and the technical skills to execute this project properly than select the lowest-priced proposal.

**Proposals that do not include the requested portfolio examples will not be given priority.**

## 6. Project Milestones

I would prefer to work through the project in stages:

1. Initial concepts and design direction.
2. Approval of the full House Higgins family crest.
3. Development of the simplified signet ring emblem.
4. Review of ring mockups and engraving compatibility.
5. Final delivery of all artwork, vector files, and source files.

I would like the opportunity to review and approve each major stage before moving forward.

## 7. Final Thoughts

I want someone who can take my existing concept and turn it into something truly special.

I am not necessarily looking for an exact copy of the AI-generated image. I welcome professional input and creative ideas, provided the original symbolism and overall vision are respected.
