CORONA TAKES LARGE SPACE
Impact of COVID-19 Pandemic on the World and India
The COVID-19 pandemic was one of the biggest global crises of the modern era. Beginning in 2020, it affected almost every country and created serious health, economic and social problems. Lockdowns, travel restrictions and the closure of factories, offices, schools and markets disrupted normal life.
The global economy suffered a major slowdown. Businesses lost revenue, supply chains were interrupted and millions of workers lost jobs or working hours. Tourism, aviation, hospitality, construction and small businesses were among the worst affected. Poverty and inequality also increased, particularly among low-income and informal workers.
In India, the pandemic had a severe impact on the economy and employment. The lockdown affected daily-wage earners, migrant workers, small traders, MSMEs and construction workers. Many migrant workers lost employment and faced difficulties returning home. Schools and colleges were closed, causing learning losses and increasing the digital divide between urban and rural students.
However, COVID-19 also accelerated digital payments, online education, e-commerce, remote working and telemedicine. The pandemic taught India and the world the importance of strong healthcare systems, social security, emergency planning and economic resilience.
Overall, COVID-19 caused enormous human and economic losses, but it also provided important lessons for building a stronger, more inclusive and better-prepared society.
