I have a completed fiction manuscript exceeding 180,000 words that now needs a meticulous copy edit. Originally planned as a single novel, it evolved into two volumes, with the second as a continuation of the first. I'm looking for professional input on whether to condense it into one epic or refine as separate volumes.
Here’s what I’d like back from you:
- An edited Word document with Track Changes turned on so I can review every adjustment.
- A clean, final-read version ready for beta readers or agents.
- A brief style sheet noting key decisions on punctuation, spelling preferences, character names, and any recurring terminology.
The manuscript is in the dark fantasy/thriller genre, involving fractured realities. It's critical to maintain tone consistency and cultural references throughout.
I’ve already finished developmental work, so this stage is strictly copy editing—no plot restructuring required unless identified during the refinement discussion above. Familiarity with Chicago Manual of Style and fiction pacing conventions (dark fantasy themes especially) is a plus. If this sounds like your specialty, let’s discuss timeline.
Please feel free to suggest stronger wording or pacing wherever it lifts the prose; I’m not after a light proofread. The most sensitive areas are my character voices, their names and relationships, plus the world-building terminology and cultural nuances woven through the story. All edits must conform to UK English spelling and the Chicago Manual of Style.
Deliverables
• Word document with Track Changes on, showing every alteration
• Clean, agent-ready file
• Brief style sheet covering punctuation choices, spelling preferences, recurring terms, and character name lists
I’ll share the manuscript as a single .docx. Let me know your estimated turnaround and how you like to structure milestones or queries during the edit so we can keep momentum.
