Contour Extraction for Terrain Model

I’m recreating a Spanish-battlefield terrain as a physical relief model and need the map section pared back to its contours only. Medium-level contour detail is ideal—enough to convey the shape accurately without swamping the cutter with lines. All other information (roads, grids, text, vegetation, buildings) should disappear.

You can advise me on the best starting format; I can supply a high-resolution scan, PDF, or whatever you recommend. Once you’ve isolated and cleaned the contours, I’ll need them scaled precisely so the finished layers drop straight into laser or CNC software and cut cleanly from 3 mm MDF or poly sheet.

Deliverables
• A master vector file (AI, SVG or DXF) showing every contour line, correctly scaled.
• Individual cut files separated by elevation step, clearly labelled for stacking.
• A quick reference image so I can sanity-check the layout before cutting.

Acceptance criteria
· Lines are continuous, closed paths with no overlaps or gaps.
· Each elevation sits on its own layer and registers perfectly with the next.
· Final files open error-free in LightBurn and Fusion 360.
