Graphic Designer – Evolve Our Brand Style + Canva Document Templates

Initial project: Company Newsletter + Employee Standard

We are an established Australian commercial trade and maintenance business looking for a talented graphic designer to evolve the way our existing brand is visually expressed.
We already have a comprehensive brand toolkit, established logo, colours, typography and brand positioning.

However, we feel the current application of the brand has become too graphic-heavy and dated. There is a strong reliance on shapes, icons, boxes and illustrative/clip-art style elements.

We don't want a rebrand. We want a more sophisticated evolution of the existing brand.

Think: Minimal. Strong. Contemporary. Editorial. Confident.
More whitespace.
Better typography and hierarchy.
Strong photography.
Less decoration.
Fewer shapes and boxes.
Orange used with purpose rather than everywhere.

We want the work to feel like a modern, established commercial business, while still unmistakably being Trayd.

INITIAL PROJECT
We would like to start with two existing documents.

1. TRAYD TALK – 2-page monthly employee newsletter
We currently produce a two-page internal newsletter containing:
Directors' update
Company and team news
Safety feature
Employee recognition
Social/event content
Birthdays and reminders
Photography from around the business

The content and current edition will be supplied.

We want the newsletter redesigned into a clean, contemporary editorial-style template that we can reuse each month in Canva.

Photography should play a stronger role in telling the story.

It still needs personality — this is an employee newsletter, not an annual report — but we want it to feel polished rather than busy.

2. THE TRAYD ESTIMATING STANDARD – approx. 8–12 pages

We have developed an internal employee Standard explaining the expectations, daily disciplines and measures of success for our Estimating team.

The content is substantially complete and will be provided as a word document.

The document needs a strong visual hierarchy that makes relatively detailed information easy to understand, navigate and remember. This is an internal onboarding an employee document which needs strong brochure feel as it is visable on desks and within the office.
The finished document should feel like an internal company playbook/Standard, not a procedure manual.

CREATIVE DIRECTION
Our existing brand toolkit will be supplied and should guide:
Logo usage
Core brand colours
Brand positioning
Typography
Overall brand personality

However, we specifically do not want the existing document layouts, shapes, icons and graphic treatments replicated. We want more contemporary, sleek, minimalistic and designed.

We are looking for a designer who can interpret the brand and move its visual expression forward.
The current brand uses a lot of graphic shapes and line-art/iconography. We would like to significantly reduce this.

We DO like:
Strong, authentic photography
Generous whitespace
Bold, confident headlines
Clean typography
Simple grids
Strong information hierarchy
Large numbers and statements
Black/charcoal + white with considered use of Trayd orange
Simple, purposeful design details
Editorial/corporate publication design

We DON'T want:
Clip-art style illustrations
Generic construction icons
A different icon for every concept
Excessive orange boxes
Heavy borders
Lots of geometric shapes
Over-designed pages
Generic Canva template styling
Busy corporate brochure layouts

If an element isn't helping communicate something, it probably doesn't need to be there.

CANVA IS ESSENTIAL
The final documents must be built natively in Canva and fully editable by our internal team.

This means:
Text remains editable
Images can easily be replaced
Colours and backgrounds remain editable
Page layouts can be duplicated and adapted
No flattened page designs imported from Illustrator/InDesign
Templates are transferred into our Canva account
Our team can create future editions without needing a designer

External software can be used to create individual specialist assets where necessary, but the finished working documents must function properly within Canva.

DELIVERABLES

Phase 1

Redesigned 2-page Trayd Talk newsletter template
Designed Trayd Estimating Standard – approximately 8–12 pages
Fully editable native Canva files
Two rounds of reasonable design revisions
Final handover into our Canva account

We will supply:

Trayd Brand Toolkit
Logos and brand assets
Current Trayd Talk newsletter
Newsletter content
Estimating Standard content
Existing Trayd photography

WHO WE'RE LOOKING FOR
We are particularly interested in designers with experience in:
Editorial design
Corporate publications
Annual reports
Employee/internal communications
Brand template systems
Canva
Strong typography and information hierarchy

Please don't send us your entire portfolio.

Instead, please show us 2–4 pieces of work that best demonstrate the clean, minimal, editorial/corporate style described above.

If your portfolio is primarily social media graphics, flyers or heavily illustrated Canva designs, this project is unlikely to be the right fit.

POTENTIAL ONGOING WORK

This is deliberately a contained first project.

If we find the right designer, there is potential to progressively develop a broader suite of Trayd collateral and Canva templates using the new visual direction.

We are looking for someone who can help us establish a stronger visual system, not simply design two documents.

Budget: AUD $400–$500 fixed price

Please include in your proposal:
Your fixed price
Estimated turnaround time
2–4 relevant examples
Confirmation that you will work in Canva and provide native editable files
A short explanation of how you would approach evolving an existing brand without rebranding it
