Civil / Grading Engineer Needed – Residential Hillside Projects

We are a structural engineering firm working mainly on residential steel-frame homes and barndominiums.
We are looking for a civil/grading engineer who has real experience with residential sites that have difficult or irregular terrain. This is not a general CAD drafting position. We need someone who has actually worked through grading, building placement, driveways, retaining walls, drainage, and similar site issues.
We have an immediate project in California and expect to have more projects like this going forward.
The current project
The property has a significant slope, and the main house/SFR will be a steel-frame barndominium. There will also be an ADU on the site.
We need help with the civil/site portion of the project, including:
- Reviewing the existing survey and topography
- Creating/reviewing the existing ground surface
- Determining a practical location and elevation for the buildings
- Site grading and finished elevations
- Cut/fill calculations
- Driveway and access grading
- Retaining wall locations and design
- Site drainage and stormwater
- Civil details and supporting calculations
- Coordination with our structural engineering team
- Preparing drawings for permit submission
Our in-house team will handle the structural design of the buildings and slabs. You would be working closely with us on the site and grading side.
Experience we are looking for
You should have experience with projects similar to this one, preferably involving:
- Residential hillside lots
- Steep or irregular terrain
- Building pads
- Residential grading
- Retaining walls
- Driveway grading
- Drainage/stormwater
- Cut and fill
- Topographic/survey data
- U.S. residential permitting
Experience with barndominiums or steel-frame residential projects would be a plus.
Software
Civil 3D is required.
Revit is also required because you will be coordinating with our structural team.
We use Autodesk Construction Cloud, so experience with ACC is helpful but not mandatory.
