I’m updating a legacy CGI-driven service and need a seasoned backend developer to modernise the server-side layer from end to end. The current scripts handle everything from simple form submissions to data-heavy transactions, so the first task will be auditing what’s there, mapping the flow, and proposing a cleaner, more maintainable architecture.
Once the plan is set, you’ll build out secure, well-documented REST endpoints, wire them to the data layer, and implement authentication, session handling, and input validation. Optimising for performance on a standard Linux environment is essential, as is writing unit tests and concise technical documentation so I can maintain the codebase after hand-off.
I’m flexible on language and framework—choose the stack that lets you deliver fast, readable code that deploys smoothly on a VPS. If you have a track record of transforming or refactoring CGI or other legacy backends into modern, scalable services, tell me how you’d tackle this project, what you’ll need from me, and a realistic timeline to complete it.
