I'm looking for a graphic designer to create a new visual identity for Poe's Purpose, a small 501(c)(3) animal welfare nonprofit. Our organization provides veterinary assistance to animals in need, supports community cat TNR efforts, and works with local rescues and community members to help animals find safe placements.

Poe's Purpose was founded in memory of my dog, Poe, who was named after Edgar Allan Poe. I'd love to incorporate that connection into our new identity while creating something unique, recognizable, and versatile.

Creative Direction

I'm envisioning an aesthetic that combines 90s grunge, dark academia, and modern gothic influences. I want something that feels a little unconventional and edgy while remaining clean, professional, approachable, and timeless.

Although Edgar Allan Poe is part of our inspiration, I don't want the branding to feel overly dark, spooky, or Halloween-themed. At its heart, Poe's Purpose is about compassion, hope, helping animals, and community. I want the identity to reflect that, with some personality and a little fun.

The logo should also have broad appeal. We frequently use our branding on apparel and fundraising merchandise, and I want designs that people of all genders would genuinely enjoy wearing.

Design Elements

I have a few ideas I'd love to explore, but I'm excited to see your creative interpretation and am open to fresh ideas!

- Raven imagery: A stylized, graphic representation of a raven as a nod to Edgar Allan Poe and the organization's namesake. I prefer bold, simplified designs over realistic or highly detailed illustrations.
- Typography: Clean, crisp, gothic-inspired lettering with distinctive, angular details. I'm drawn to bold, modern interpretations of traditional gothic serif fonts rather than elaborate medieval-style lettering.
- Monogram: A standalone mark featuring two uppercase Ps, with one reversed to create a mirrored, symmetrical design. I'd like the lettering to coordinate closely with the primary wordmark so the two feel like part of the same identity.
- Color palette: I'm drawn to a moody, sophisticated palette featuring raven black, aged parchment, oxblood, weathered slate, and antique silver. I'm open to a designer's interpretation of these colors.

I generally prefer designs that are relatively minimal, with strong shapes and thoughtful details. I'd like to avoid generic animal rescue imagery, including prominent paw prints, hearts, or cartoon-style animals.

Deliverables

I'm looking for a cohesive collection of logo variations that can be used across different applications, including:

1. Primary logo
2. Secondary logo
3. Monogram
4. Icon/brandmark
5. One-color versions suitable for screen printing, embroidery, engraving, and other decoration methods
6. Color palette with HEX, RGB, and CMYK values, along with the names of any fonts used

Because we frequently produce embroidered and screen-printed merchandise, it's particularly important that the designs reproduce cleanly. Fine details, extremely thin lines, and complicated gradients should be avoided. I'm happy to have a more detailed version for digital and large-format applications as long as simplified, decoration-friendly alternatives are included.

Final Files

I'd like to receive editable vector source files (preferably Adobe Illustrator), along with SVG, PDF, and transparent PNG versions of the approved logos.

I'm not looking for a comprehensive brand strategy, messaging guidelines, social media templates, or website redesign. My priority is a professionally designed, cohesive visual identity consisting of multiple logo variations and a coordinated color palette.

Designer Qualifications

I'd love to work with someone who has experience creating distinctive logos, custom typography, or alternative/gothic-inspired designs.

Experience designing for apparel, screen printing, and embroidery would be especially valuable.

Please share relevant portfolio examples, your estimated timeline, and how many initial concepts and revision rounds are included in your proposal. The final approved designs should include full commercial usage rights.
