# BMW CAS3+ CAN Bus Ignition & Engine Cranking — Feasibility Investigation
I'm looking for someone experienced in BMW electronics, automotive CAN bus communication, and firmware reverse engineering.
**Vehicle:** BMW E61 520d LCI (2009), manual transmission, original CAS3+ module.
**My objective:**
I want to determine whether it is possible to send a CAN bus message (or an authorized sequence of messages) to the original CAS3+ module to:
1. Turn on ignition (KL15).
2. Initiate engine cranking (KL50).
3. Use the original BMW key positioned near the key-reader coil.
4. Retain the original immobilizer, genuine-key authentication, and factory safety interlocks.
**Important:** I am not looking to replace the CAS module, bypass the immobilizer, or install an aftermarket remote-start system. I only want to establish whether this functionality is supported by the stock CAS3+ firmware.
**Research already available:**
I can provide the original CAS3+ firmware image, Ghidra decompilation, CAN ID analysis, and extensive technical findings from previous investigations.
Remote-start-related CAN processing has already been identified, including CAN ID `0x282`, but no complete ignition-activation path has been verified.
**What I need from you:**
Analyze the existing research and determine whether an original, authenticated CAN-controlled ignition and cranking path exists. Explain the required hardware, software, key-authorization, and safety conditions, and provide supporting technical evidence.
If it is not possible with the available firmware and configuration, explain the specific limitation.
**Budget:** €50–€100
Please apply only if you have relevant experience with BMW CAS modules, Freescale/NXP HCS12X processors, Ghidra/IDA, or automotive embedded systems.
