The job
We're a small web studio hiring a designer-developer to design and build two websites for a client launching two new venture capital firms. Both need to feel premium and alive: strong animation, strong graphic design, and a polished build from first mockup to deployed site. For now, both sites are brochure-style: a polished, informational presence for each firm rather than a web app, with no logins, portals, or complex functionality. The craft is in the design, the motion, and how the content is presented.
We handle payment and set up the relationship; after that, you work directly with the client. He knows what he wants, but it lives in his head, not on paper. A big part of the job is drawing that vision out of him and turning it into reality.
Site 1: landing page for a new venture firm
A focused, high-end landing page. The bar is a couple of well-known venture firm sites: minimal, editorial, confident, with motion that feels intentional. A temporary wordmark exists and the final logo is still coming, so the palette and type system should let the real logo drop in later. Content includes team bios and headshots (likely needing a consistent treatment such as black-and-white and background removal) and a portfolio of standardized company logos grouped by status (current vs. exited). Domain and DNS are already in place.
Site 2: a second firm, from a blank slate
The same client is opening a second firm with no brand identity yet: no logo, no colors, no type. You create the identity, then design and build the site around it. He likes the structure of one reference site in the investment space but wants ours clearly better executed: bespoke and refined, not templated.
What we're looking for
Strong animation and motion design: scroll-driven reveals, smooth transitions, and micro-interactions that make a site feel expensive without getting in the way.
Strong graphic design: typography, layout, color, and brand identity, including building a logo and visual system from nothing.
Taking someone's vision and turning it into reality: the client speaks in references and feelings, not specs, and you translate that into a finished product he recognizes as exactly what he meant.
Extracting details from the client: you'll be on calls and emails with him directly, pulling out preferences, gathering bios, photos, and logos, and getting sign-off at each stage. Clear, proactive communication matters as much as the design work.
Solid front-end skills: responsive, fast, accessible, clean code handed off in a Git repository that can be deployed and updated without you.
