Azure Data Architect Consultant (Part-time)
Engagement: Part-time contract, 10 to 20 hours per week | Location: Remote (India) | Experience: 9 to 14 years
About the role
We are looking for an experienced Azure data architect to consult on enterprise data platform engagements alongside our delivery team. You will review architectures, diagnose performance problems and guide our engineers, working directly with client stakeholders when needed.
What you will do
Review and shape Azure data architectures across ingestion, warehouse or lakehouse layers, modelling and reporting
Lead performance and cost optimisation on Azure Synapse dedicated SQL pools: diagnosing slow queries from execution plans, fixing data skew and data movement, and choosing distribution, partitioning and indexing strategies
Review and tune Data Factory and Synapse pipelines for run time, reliability and cost
Advise on service choices across Synapse, Databricks, Microsoft Fabric and ADLS Gen2
Join client workshops and architecture reviews, and produce clear recommendations and documentation
Coach and review the work of our data engineers
What we look for
9 to 14 years in data engineering or data architecture, with at least 3 years on Azure data platforms
Proven Synapse optimisation experience. You can explain when to use hash, round-robin or replicated tables, how you find and fix skew, how statistics and columnstore health affect performance, and how you use workload management and materialized views
Strong query plan analysis, with measured before and after results
Working knowledge of Databricks and Fabric, and solid data modelling
Experience with governance and security: Purview, RBAC, row and column-level security
Client-facing consulting experience and clear communication
Azure certifications (AZ-305, DP-203, DP-600 or DP-700) are a plus
