Senior AWS / Aurora PostgreSQL Engineer Required
We are looking for an experienced AWS / Database / Cloud Engineer to help with a critical multi-region deployment for a healthcare SaaS application.
Project Overview
Our healthcare SaaS application currently runs in AWS us-east-1 and needs to expand into us-west-2 to support West Coast customers and improve disaster recovery.
The core challenge is migrating the existing database architecture to Amazon Aurora PostgreSQLand making the application work reliably across both AWS regions.
During implementation, we discovered that Aurora PostgreSQL cross-region write forwarding is not functionally compatible with the application's current database usage patterns. We therefore need an experienced engineer to evaluate the architecture and implement the most appropriate alternative.
Responsibilities
Analyze the existing AWS architecture and application/database interaction.
Review the current PostgreSQL database and migration approach to Aurora PostgreSQL.
Design and implement a reliable multi-region AWS architecture.
Deploy the application successfully in us-west-2
Evaluate alternatives to Aurora cross-region write forwarding.
Balance:
West Coast application performance
Database consistency
Disaster recovery requirements
Application code changes
Operational complexity and cost
Configure Aurora PostgreSQL replication / cross-region DR as appropriate.
Troubleshoot database connectivity, replication, latency, and application compatibility issues.
Work with the existing development/consulting team to implement the selected architecture.
Document the final architecture, deployment process, and DR/recovery procedure.
Required Experience
Strong hands-on AWS experience
Advanced PostgreSQL knowledge
Experience with Amazon Aurora PostgreSQL
Multi-region AWS deployments
Database replication and disaster recovery
AWS networking, IAM, security groups, and infrastructure configuration
Experience troubleshooting production database/application compatibility issues
Understanding of high availability, RTO/RPO, failover, and data consistency
Nice to Have
Healthcare SaaS experience
AWS ECS/EKS/EC2 experience
Terraform or CloudFormation
CI/CD experience
PostgreSQL performance optimization
Experience migrating traditional PostgreSQL workloads to Aurora
Experience designing active/passive or active/active architectures
Important
This is a hands-on engineering role not a consulting-only position. We need someone who can analyze the current architecture, recommend a practical solution, and implement and validate the solution.
The project is on a tight timeline so candidates should be available to start quickly and work closely with the existing engineering team.
Please include:
Relevant AWS/Aurora PostgreSQL experience
Examples of multi-region projects you have worked on
Your proposed approach to this type of cross-region architecture problem
Availability and timezone
Hourly/project rate
We are open to continuing with the right engineer for additional AWS, database, and infrastructure work after this project.
