1-Month Contract, with possibility of extension to 2 months
We are looking for an exceptionally resourceful Arabic/English bilingual researcher to join us for an intensive one-month research project related to a documentary film.
This is not an academic research position. We need someone who is extremely good at finding things online.
A major part of the role will involve researching and sourcing:
Stock footage
Archival footage
Historical photographs
Historical video material
News footage
Government and institutional archives
Museum and cultural archives
YouTube, Vimeo and other online sources
International stock libraries and specialist archives
Hard-to-find material relating to Saudi Arabia and the Arab world
You should be comfortable searching in both Arabic and English and trying multiple approaches when something is difficult to locate.
We are also looking for someone who is very comfortable using modern AI tools such as ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini or similar tools to improve research, generate search strategies, discover sources, translate search terms and work more efficiently.
However, we are not looking for an AI specialist or content writer. The most important skill is research.
What you will do
You will receive specific research requests and be expected to investigate them thoroughly.
For every relevant asset you find, you may need to record information such as:
Link/source
Description
Date
Creator/archive
Available resolution
Whether 4K/HD is available
Licensing information
Price, if available
Contact information for the rights holder
Notes about relevance to the film
You may also be asked to contact archives, institutions, photographers, filmmakers or rights holders to obtain information about material.
Who we are looking for
The ideal person:
Is fluent in Arabic and English
Is an excellent internet researcher
Knows how to search beyond the first page of Google
Is comfortable using AI as a research tool
Is persistent and enjoys finding difficult-to-find information
Can evaluate whether a source is reliable
Is extremely organised
Is good with Google Sheets/Excel
Can work independently
Responds quickly and communicates clearly
Has strong attention to detail
Experience in film, documentary, journalism, media research, archives, history or visual research would be an advantage, but is not essential.
