IMPORTANT:"I have already conducted research using AI agents like ChatGPT and Claude, but I did not receive a satisfactory answer. Therefore, if you happen to be using AI to communicate with me, please let us not waste each other's time."
I need a small, low-level Android application that automatically disables the device’s camera as soon as it is installed. Our workforce uses a mix of unmanaged Android phones and tablets, so the solution has to work on most mainstream devices without relying on a full MDM platform.
How I picture the flow
• On first launch the app requests any system or accessibility permission required to block the camera.
• Once permission is granted it immediately turns the camera off system-wide and keeps it off, surviving reboots and continuing to work in the background.
• If a model cannot be locked down programmatically, the app should fall back to a clear, on-screen walkthrough so the user can grant the exact setting that lets the camera be disabled.
Key expectations
• Broad compatibility (Android 8.0 through the latest release).
• Works with common manufacturers, not just Samsung Knox-enabled lines.
• No ongoing user interaction after the initial permission grant.
• Lightweight footprint and unobtrusive UI—ideally just a status page confirming the camera is off.
Deliverables
1. Signed APK and full, buildable Android Studio project.
2. Brief technical document outlining the APIs used (e.g., DevicePolicyManager, CameraManager, AccessibilityService) and any limitations by Android version.
3. One-page user guide that we can hand to employees if manual permission steps are needed.
Acceptance will be based on testing the app across three different, unmanaged devices and confirming that the camera cannot be launched in any other app once your service is running.
