Our company is developing an aluminium extrusion plant in Iraq, based on a 20 MN direct front-loading press with a 7-inch billet, for architectural and industrial 6xxx-series profiles. We have received two competing offers and require an independent consultant to study them and advise us on selection.
1. Documents under review
Kautec Solutions S.L., Technical Specification, Offer No. 17802/26 Rev. 0 (05/02/2026, 130 pages). It covers a complete line from log loader to ageing furnace, including a 19.7 MN tandem press (KP-20 Eco-Concept).
SMS group, Technical Specification Vol. 1, 20 MN Extrusion Press, Rev. 0 (13 March 2026), covering the press only.
Foshan OMAV Machinery Engineering (SMS group), Offer OFF105B26 (technical specification dated 8 March 2026, commercial offer dated 11 March 2026). It covers the press feed line, handling system, ageing oven (optional) and die ovens (optional).
2. Scope of the consultancy
a) Technical comparison
Build a like-for-like scope matrix. The Kautec offer is one supplier for the whole line, while the SMS group offer splits the press (SMS) from the upstream and downstream equipment (OMAV).
Compare the press and hydraulic design, the billet and profile envelope, and the capacity balance from furnace to stretcher against our target product mix.
Review the electrical, cooling-water and ambient-temperature requirements against Iraq site conditions.
Assess automation, control systems and safety, and identify any gaps against the required standards.
b) Commercial comparison
Establish the total installed cost of each option, including items not priced or excluded in the offers: the SMS press price, freight and insurance to Iraq, customs, tooling and dies, spare parts, utilities, foundations and erection.
Compare delivery time, payment terms, guarantee conditions, supervision and training, and after-sales support in Iraq.
c) Risk and interface review
Assess the interface and single-point-responsibility risk of the split SMS/OMAV supply.
Review each supplier's references for 7" / 20 MN lines and its ability to provide local service and spare parts.
d) Clarification list and recommendation
Prepare a consolidated list of technical and commercial clarifications to send to both vendors, then a weighted scoring matrix and a written recommendation with negotiation points.
3. Deliverables and timeline
An evaluation report with the scope matrix, technical and commercial comparison, risk register and recommendation and is this all the equipment that is required for aluminium extrusion.
The consolidated clarification list for both vendors.
Draft report by [ASAP]; final report within [1] weeks of appointment.
4. Proposal requirements
Please submit a technical proposal (methodology, team CVs, relevant experience with aluminium extrusion lines of similar size, and proposed schedule) and a separate lump-sum fee proposal by [submission date]. Both vendors' documents are marked confidential and proprietary, so appointment is conditional on signing our non-disclosure agreement and confirming that you have no conflict of interest with Kautec, SMS group or OMAV.
Please direct any questions to the undersigned.
