I have a 30,000-word science-fiction manuscript ready for its first outside eyes, and I’d like a thorough alpha read that zeroes in on character development, plot, and overall impressions—specifically the emotional depth of the cast. What I need from you is an honest, detail-oriented reaction to how convincingly the characters feel, how their emotions land on the page, and whether their responses ring true scene by scene.

The story is still in an exploratory stage, so I’m not looking for copy-edits or line-level polish yet. Instead, focus on the big picture of feelings, motivations, and relationships: tell me where the beats resonate and where they fall flat, flag any places where the characters’ emotions feel unearned or inconsistent, and let me know which moments draw you in or push you out of the story.

Deliverables I’d like:

• An annotated manuscript (Word or Google Docs comments are fine) highlighting emotional reactions, confusions, or standout moments.
• A brief summary report (1-2 pages) that pulls together your overall impressions of the characters’ emotional arcs and offers concrete suggestions for deepening them.

If you enjoy diving into sci-fi worlds and have a keen eye for authentic emotional stakes, your perspective will be invaluable at this stage.
