About Legal 500
Legal 500 is a global legal market research, data and intelligence business. Our research helps corporate clients make informed decisions about legal representation and gives law firms insight into their market position, performance, and clients.
Beyond research, we’re building a growing data, benchmarking, market-intelligence and subscription service offering. We bring the legal market together through a global programme of events - awards ceremonies, conferences and roundtables that convene leading law firms, in-house teams and their advisers. And through Legal Business, our journalistic title, we deliver independent news, analysis and commentary on the business of law and the strategy, performance and leadership of the world’s leading law firms.
We are a growing, multi-site organisation, with colleagues working across research, data, technology, product, journalism, commercial and events in London, Leeds and Bristol.
About the Role:
Our new AI Product Owner will provide central product ownership for AI capabilities developed and used across Legal 500, spanning multiple business units, functions and AI products.
We see the primary premise of this role is to ensure that investment in AI is prioritised against Legal 500’s business objectives, that products solve clearly defined business problems, and that appropriate quality, governance, human oversight and accountability are built into their lifecycle.
What you'll do:
You will have the opportunity to operate as centrally within Legal 500, sitting within the 'Project' unit within our People & Business Operations function. You'll work across business-unit leaders, users, Technology, Data, Governance and relevant technology partners or suppliers.
You'll be accountable for maintaining an enterprise AI product portfolio and roadmap and have responsibility for translating business needs into prioritised product requirements. This role is also about overseeing adoption and value realisation and ensuring AI products continue to improve as Legal 500’s operating models evolve. There is a possibility we may grow this team out to support on AI-specific engineering tasks.
What we're looking for:
Essential
Strong product ownership background, ideally managing a portfolio of products or initiatives across multiple functions in an AI, data, digital or knowledge-intensive environment in a business change context
Good understanding of how generative AI and related technologies can be applied to business processes (this role is not about having deep engineering expertise)
Ability to quickly understand different business functions and complex processes, and translate them into clear product requirements, priorities and measurable outcomes
Strong analytical and critical-thinking skills, with the ability to challenge AI outputs and understand issues such as hallucination, bias, confidence and evidence quality
Experience working across multiple business units and technology teams, balancing competing priorities and communicating effectively with both technical and non-technical stakeholders
Curious and comfortable challenging established ways of working with a commercial and outcome-focused approach rather than technology-led
Comfortable working in an evolving environment where AI capabilities and operating practices will continue to change.
Desirable
An understanding of professional services, publishing, legal markets, research or other knowledge-intensive environments would be advantageous.
Role information:
Hybrid workplace - 3 days a week in office, 2 days remote
This role can be based in either London or Leeds
Occasional travel to the other offices may be required (Bristol, London and Leeds)
