Adobe Publishing Automation Script

I have a working proof-of-concept script that batch-places JPGs into InDesign and exports a PDF, but I need it polished into a dependable, time-saving tool. The goal is simple: eliminate the repetitive steps I perform whenever I build headshot catalogs.

What I already have
• A short ExtendScript snippet (shown in the brief) that loops through images, adds pages, places each photo, and exports a PDF.
• Finished InDesign templates that define page size, margins, paragraph styles, master pages, etc.
• Folders full of headshot JPGs.

What I want the finished script to do
1. Optional Photoshop pre-processing: run a defined batch action to crop, resize, or colour-correct every image before they reach InDesign.
2. Smart placement: place each processed headshot into the correct placeholder frames of my template instead of creating blank pages one by one.
3. Overflow handling: automatically add new pages based on the master page when the template frames are filled.
4. Consistent fitting: apply Fit Options (fill proportionally, centre content) and preserve frame/object styles.
5. Output automation: save the InDesign file, export a press-ready PDF to a chosen folder, and show a summary alert of pages/images processed.
6. Basic UI: allow me to pick the image folder, the destination folder, and toggle the Photoshop step on/off.
7. Reliability extras: simple error handling, progress bar, comments in the code so I can tweak variables later.

Deliverables
• A clean, fully-commented .jsx (or .js) script ready to run from InDesign Scripts panel.
• Any Photoshop action file if you create one.
• A short read-me (or screen-recorded walk-through) showing how to install, run, and adjust the script.
