# 3D MODELLER BRIEF
## Mercedes Sprinter Ice Cream Van – 1:14 Scale RC / Display Model
**Client:** The Signage Company Ltd
**Source file supplied:** `The Signage Company - Ice Cream Truck Render.obj`
**Purpose:** Convert the supplied high-detail 3D vehicle model into a manufacturable 1:14 scale model suitable for 3D printing, with provision for both static display and radio-controlled versions.
---
## 1. PROJECT OBJECTIVE
We already have a detailed OBJ model of the complete ice-cream van.
**We do NOT require the vehicle to be remodelled from scratch.**
The existing OBJ should be used as the reference/master geometry and converted into a clean, watertight, production-ready model.
The finished model needs to:
* Accurately retain the appearance and proportions of the supplied vehicle.
* Be suitable for repeated 3D printing/manufacture.
* Have a hollow removable vehicle body.
* Accept a separate RC chassis underneath.
* Allow clear glazing to be installed.
* Allow LEDs to be installed in the lights.
* Have replaceable delicate components.
* Allow printed miniature vinyl graphics to be applied to the body.
* Be designed so additional customer versions can eventually be produced.
---
# 2. TARGET SCALE
Initial target is **1:14 scale**.
Approximate finished dimensions based on the supplied vehicle:
* Length: **438 mm**
* Width: **175 mm**
* Height: **190 mm**
* Target wheelbase: approximately **261 mm**
The exact dimensions should be verified against the supplied OBJ before manufacturing geometry is finalised.
**Do not distort the overall vehicle simply to accommodate an existing RC chassis without prior approval.**
---
# 3. ORIGINAL FILE
The supplied OBJ is a very high-resolution visualisation mesh.
The original OBJ must remain completely untouched.
Create a separate cleaned working/master file.
Preferred editable master format:
**Blender `.blend`**
Final manufacturing files:
**STL and/or 3MF**
OBJ may additionally be supplied for interchange.
---
# 4. MAIN BODY SHELL
Create a clean hollow exterior shell based on the supplied vehicle.
Target general wall thickness:
**1.6–2.0 mm**
Reinforced areas around:
* lower body edge
* chassis mounting points
* wheel arches
* body fixing locations
may be approximately:
**2.5–3.0 mm**
The underside of the vehicle should be substantially open to allow the complete body to fit over a separate RC chassis.
The body must be **watertight/manifold and suitable for slicing**.
Avoid simply applying a global Solidify operation to the existing high-density mesh if this produces poor internal geometry.
---
# 5. COMPONENT SEPARATION
The following should preferably be separate components.
### Main components
1. Main vehicle body shell
2. Front bumper
3. Rear bumper
4. Front grille
5. Roof conversion/pod where appropriate
### Detail components
6. Driver-side mirror
7. Passenger-side mirror
8. Roof ice-cream cones/signage
9. Headlight housings
10. Rear-light housings
11. Other particularly vulnerable exterior details
Small parts should have sensible locating pins/recesses so they can be assembled consistently.
Mirrors and roof decorations should be replaceable if damaged.
---
# 6. WINDOWS / GLAZING
Do not permanently model opaque windows as part of the shell.
Provide recesses/flanges where practical for separately installed transparent glazing.
Glazing will potentially be manufactured from clear:
**PETG / acrylic / other suitable transparent sheet.**
Required glazing areas include:
* front windscreen
* driver's window
* passenger-side glazing
* serving windows
* rear glazing where applicable
The modeller should provide templates or CAD outlines for each glazing piece where practical.
---
# 7. LIGHTING
The model should be capable of accepting working LEDs.
Provide suitable cavities/access for:
* headlights
* rear lights
* indicators where practical
* optional interior/serving-area illumination
Design should allow wiring to pass internally into the RC chassis.
Lights should ideally use separate lenses or inserts rather than simply being part of the painted body shell.
---
# 8. RC CHASSIS INTERFACE
The vehicle body should be removable from the chassis.
Preferred fixing method:
**4-point screw mounting or similarly robust removable arrangement.**
Mounting bosses should be incorporated into reinforced areas of the shell.
The chassis must be accessible without damaging:
* graphics
* glazing
* exterior trim
Target wheelbase:
**approximately 261 mm at 1:14**
Final axle positions must correspond visually with the wheel arches of the original vehicle.
Please do not reposition the wheel arches merely to fit a generic chassis unless agreed beforehand.
---
# 9. WHEEL CLEARANCE
Allow sufficient clearance for:
* steering movement
* tyre rotation
* reasonable suspension travel
* manufacturing tolerances
The front wheels must be able to achieve a practical steering angle without contacting the body.
However, the external wheel-arch appearance should remain faithful to the original vehicle.
---
# 10. GRAPHICS / VINYL REQUIREMENT
This is particularly important.
The completed body will receive **miniature printed vinyl graphics derived from the customer's real full-size vehicle artwork**.
Exterior surfaces therefore need to be clean and suitable for vinyl application.
Avoid unnecessary faceting on major graphic areas.
Particular attention should be paid to:
* driver's side
* serving side
* rear
* bonnet/front
* large flat sign/display panels
If possible, also provide clean flattened/reference outlines for these areas to assist with preparation of miniature graphics.
The intention is for The Signage Company to print miniature versions of customer vehicle graphics and apply them to the scale body.
---
# 11. SURFACE QUALITY
Visible exterior panels need to retain enough resolution to appear smooth at 1:14 scale.
However, the current extremely dense source geometry should be optimised appropriately.
Priority is:
**visual accuracy + smooth surfaces + reliable manufacture**
rather than retaining unnecessary polygon count.
Do not unnecessarily simplify:
* grille
* wheel arches
* panel lines
* window surrounds
* serving aperture
* roof conversion
* distinctive ice-cream-van features
---
# 12. 3D PRINTING
The design should be prepared with practical manufacturing in mind.
We are open to recommendations regarding:
* FDM
* SLA/resin
* SLS/MJF
* combination of processes
The main body may use a different process from small high-detail components.
Please advise if the main body should be divided into multiple pieces because of available printer build volume.
If splitting is required, joints should be deliberately positioned along natural vehicle panel lines wherever possible.
---
# 13. PROTOTYPE TEST PIECE
**Before completing the entire vehicle, we would like a test section produced.**
Please prepare approximately a **100 mm long representative body section at 1:14 scale**.
Ideally this should include:
* main exterior body panel
* part of a window/serving aperture
* wheel arch
* body contour/panel detail
This will allow us to test:
* wall thickness
* surface quality
* print quality
* paint/finish
* miniature vinyl adhesion
* scale/detail level
**Full conversion should not proceed to final manufacturing files until this test geometry has been approved.**
---
# 14. DELIVERABLES
At completion we require:
* Clean editable Blender master
* Main body manufacturing file
* Individual STL/3MF files for removable components
* Glazing outlines/templates
* Chassis mounting information
* Confirmed finished dimensions
* Confirmed wheelbase
* Assembly diagram or exploded view
* Recommended print orientation/process
* Any support/assembly notes
* Graphics reference/template where possible
Files should be clearly named.
Example:
`01_Main_Body.3mf`
`02_Front_Bumper.3mf`
`03_Rear_Bumper.3mf`
`04_Grille.3mf`
`05_Mirror_L.3mf`
`06_Mirror_R.3mf`
`07_Roof_Pod.3mf`
`08_Roof_Cone_L.3mf`
etc.
---
# 15. FUTURE PRODUCTION
This should not be treated purely as a one-off hobby model.
The intention is to investigate producing **personalised miniature replicas of customers' actual ice-cream vans**.
The manufacturing master should therefore be constructed cleanly enough to allow repeat production and future variants.
Potential products include:
### Static Display Model
Detailed personalised replica using customer's actual vehicle graphics.
### Illuminated Display Model
Static replica with functional vehicle/interior lighting.
### Full RC Model
Proportional steering and throttle, rechargeable battery, lighting and optional sound.
The CAD/model architecture should therefore be modular wherever practical.
---

## IMPORTANT
We already own/have access to the source OBJ.
We are **not looking for a quote to model a Mercedes Sprinter or ice-cream van from scratch**.
The work required is specifically:
**Existing detailed OBJ → clean manufacturing geometry → hollow 1:14 body → modular components → RC-ready assembly → repeatable production files.**
what ive uploaded is the file we own.
