CAD Designer Needed for Plastic Shower Niche Product

We are looking for an experienced CAD/product designer to create a detailed 3D CAD model and manufacturing drawings for a recessed plastic shower niche.

The attached images are reference samples showing the general type of product and construction we are looking for. The new design should be similar in concept, but it will be our own proprietary design with dimensions, geometry, mounting flange, screw locations, wall draft, corner radii, and other details developed specifically for our product.

The niche will likely be manufactured as a one-piece molded plastic component, so the designer should have experience with plastic product design and ideally injection molding, thermoforming, rotational molding, or similar manufacturing processes.

Scope of Work
- Create a complete parametric 3D CAD model of the niche.
- Develop the outer mounting flange.
- Design the recessed box/body.
- Add appropriate wall draft angles for molding.
- Add corner radii and fillets suitable for plastic manufacturing.
- Incorporate mounting/screw holes around the perimeter flange.
- Develop a textured or bonding-friendly exterior/flange surface where appropriate for cement, thinset, or waterproofing installation.
- Maintain appropriate and reasonably uniform wall thickness.
- Design transitions between the flange and niche body to reduce stress concentration and improve manufacturability.
- Consider mold release, parting line, undercuts, draft, shrinkage, and general DFM requirements.
- Create detailed 2D engineering drawings with dimensions, sections, tolerances, and relevant manufacturing notes.
- Revise the design based on our comments before final approval.

Reference Dimensions / General Concept
The attached samples show examples approximately in the range of:
- 16" × 14" overall flange size
- Approximately 12" internal height
- Approximately 4" depth

These dimensions are for reference only. We will provide the final dimensions and requirements for our product.

We may ultimately require multiple niche sizes using the same basic design language, so the CAD should preferably be developed parametrically so dimensions can be modified efficiently for additional models.

Required Deliverables
Final files should include:
- Native editable CAD file
- STEP / STP
- IGES if applicable
- STL for prototype/3D printing
- PDF manufacturing drawing
- DWG or DXF 2D drawing if applicable

Preferred native CAD formats include SolidWorks, Fusion 360, Inventor, Creo, or similar professional parametric CAD software.

Ideal Freelancer

We prefer someone with experience in:
- Plastic product design
- Injection-molded or molded parts
- Draft-angle and mold-release design
- DFM for plastic manufacturing
- Technical drawings and GD&T
- Consumer/building products
- Waterproofing or construction products is a plus

Please provide examples of previous plastic enclosures, trays, recessed boxes, molded housings, plumbing/building products, or similar molded products you have designed.
Important: We are not looking only for someone who can copy the attached sample. We want a designer who can improve the geometry and create a clean, professional, manufacturable product suitable for eventual tooling and mass production.

I would also recommend adding this sentence if you plan to manufacture it by injection molding:
The designer should specifically evaluate draft angles, nominal wall thickness, ribs, bosses, radii, gate/ejection considerations, sink/warpage risk, and tooling feasibility before the design is finalized.

And if your real goal is to create an entire product family—such as 16×14, 16×16, 16×20, 16×24, 16x36 and 16x48.

I would tell the freelancer that from the beginning. It changes how they should build the parametric CAD model and can save substantial redesign work later. I have some CAD files they can use.
