have a 3d scan of a car chassis. I have 2d renders and 3d file of the body i want to put on the chassis. I need the body fit to the chassis and sliced into car buck templates and or be able to 3d print the body
I want to make sure we're completely on the same page about what I need from the CAD work.
The goal is to take my Zanatta body design and accurately fit it to the Porsche 986 rolling chassis. This isn't just for rendering or visualization. The finished model will ultimately be used to build the real full-size car, so dimensions, scale, wheel locations and alignment need to be accurate.
I can provide the 3D scan/model of the stripped 986 chassis and all of my Zanatta body reference images/models. The chassis should be treated as the dimensional reference.
I need the body designed/fitted around the actual chassis hard points, including:
Exact front and rear wheel/axle centerlines
Correct wheelbase, including whatever chassis stretch we finalize
Correct track width
Actual intended wheel and tire diameters/widths
Windshield/frame location and angle
Factory door/cabin structure that must remain
Rocker/chassis locations
Wheel arch and tire clearance
Front and rear overhangs
Overall body width, height and length
Major openings/vents and other body features positioned correctly
Please do not change the Zanatta design simply to make fitting easier without discussing it with me first. If something in the design conflicts with the chassis, tell me what the conflict is and we can decide together how to solve it.
Symmetry is also important. Once one side is correct, I want the opposite side mathematically mirrored where appropriate rather than eyeballed.
Most importantly, I need the final geometry to be true 1:1 scale and dimensionally reliable. If a measurement in the CAD file says 500 mm, I need to be able to build that part at 500 mm and know it corresponds correctly to the real chassis.
For the final deliverables, I want the editable CAD/source file as well as exportable geometry such as STL/STEP/OBJ as appropriate. The body needs to be usable for creating full-size sections/templates/buck geometry and eventually molds/body panels—not just as a visual model.
Before you get too far into detailed surfacing, I'd also like us to establish and approve the basic package first: chassis, wheelbase, wheels/tires, body position, overall proportions and major hard points. Once I approve that fit, then we can move into the detailed body surfaces.
